Madeira is part of Portugal since 1418, consisting of two islands, Madeira and Porto Santo. Madeira has excellent Parish records and civil registers, many starting as early as 1542. Many Madeirans migrated to the United States in the late 1800's and early 1900's, establishing big communities in both the East and West Coast.
